Bosnian Office of Tourism / Catholic News Services - It's a great shame that Catholic News Services has the misleading photo caption "The cross marks the place where in 1981 a vision of Mary was reported by six young people". The 1981 apparitions in Medjugorje are said to have occurred on Apparition Hill (Brdo Ukazanja) which is located to the left of Cross Mountain (Križevac). The concrete cross on Cross Mountain was built by the impoverished people of Medjugorje to commemorate the 1900th … [More]

“Irenaeus”, I appreciate the further information on the alleged sexual activities of Tomislav Vlasic (formerly Fra Tomislav Vlašić, OFM). I have to say from the outset that British newspapers such as the “Daily Mail”, “Daily Express” and “The Daily Telegraph” are best put to use at the bottom of a pet’s cage (I will read articles from these papers if they are brought to my attention). Simon Caldwell’s carefully constructed articles on Tomislav Vlasic’s alleged sexual … [More]

Thank you, Gregory! As you pointed out before, even St. Thomas' doubting served a spiritual purpose.
ACLumsden  06/01/2011 09:43:13
@ Cannoli - Quite!! Many Roman Catholics today are too accustomed to emotivity and irrational actions (post Vatican II) founded upon this lack of reason. Therefore, they suffer from an anaemic faith; a faith lacking in knowledge which retires into superstition before long. This is always the grave danger with religion.

Feel free to respond to the above question. Pax

Rope, I'll respond to you.

A long time ago, one of my mentors wrote:
Now faith is the substance of things to be hoped for, the evidence of things that appear not.

Today, they eagerly seek out mystics and look for miracles?
Go figure. Maybe the Prots are right. Few Catholics read much less pay attention to what is written in the Bible.

Holy Cannoli  06/01/2011 07:52:50
Irenaeus,

Fr. Vlasic's laicization doesn't matter. For the Medjugorje militia dissent is not permitted nor are facts allowed if those facts in any way cast doubt on the overall mission.

The Bo$nian Office of Touri$m want$ to remind pilgrim$ that Father Tomi$lav Vla$ic’s laici$ation i$ not a judgement on the pilgrimage $ite it$elf. Come to Boznia. Your miracle could be right around the corner. $$$

irenaeus, you are quoting from an openly gay journalist Simon Caldwell who has 0.0% credibility and is always writing hostile articles against the Catholic Church that are full of errors and downright falsehoods. You'll find many of Caldwell's editorials in "The Gay Times" and many other off-beat publications. Caldwell is openly hostile to the Catholic Church in general and thinks nothing of reporting lies because he realizes people believe much of what they read and do little investigation on … [More]

Pope Benedict XVI unfrocks Medjugorje priest
Father Tomislav Vlasic, the priest who helped to turn the Bosnian town of Medjugorje into one of the Catholic Church's most visited shrines, has left the priesthood after being placed under investigation by the Vatican.

By Simon Caldwell 8:00AM BST 27 Jul 2009

Father Tomislav Vlasic, the former "spiritual director" to six visionaries who claim that the Virgin Mary visited them nearly 40,000 times over 28 years, has been laicised by Pope Benedict … [More]

It will only be prophetic if it turns out I was right. It is an educated prediction at this point. It would make sense though because if it has gone on almost 30 years now it would be a great sign for it to continue until the 33rd year.
holyrope 3  05/01/2011 19:13:48
now your a prophet too kfarley...let's not stretch it.
kfarley  05/01/2011 18:52:41
Rome definately will! And by the way I'll be the first to make this prediction (I believe anyway) June 24th of this year will be 30 years of apparitions in Medjugorje and I believe Our Lady will appear there for a total of 33 years (the age of Christ Crucified obviously) as a sign of God's great Mercy to mankind by allowing His Mother the entire mortal time Christ spent on earth for the saving of souls.
holyrope 3  05/01/2011 18:49:37
The fruits in the beginning were there and THEN came UNHOLY behavior even by the clergy! Rome will have the Last Word.
kfarley  05/01/2011 18:43:07
As I said you have to focus on the fruits of Medjugorje and they are good. Anyone who does not want to believe in the apparitions can find and endless array of reasons they choose not to believe in them-just as anyone can disagree with Catholicism and give a million reasons why. Whether Our Lady did or did not say this or that to Vicka does not negate the millions of conversions to the Catholic faith resultant from the apparitions in Medjugorje. If the Devil is making the apparitions happen he … [More]

"when Our Lady supposedly gave Vicka an alternate birthdate is really not that important."

First of all, Vicka did say Our Lady told her Aug. 5th is her real birth-date. How do I know? Becasue she told me to my face and those with me. I was taken aback at this statement and asked her to repeat it again in which she did.

And it is up to the Vatican to decide whether this staement, (never ever been said to anyone else by Our Lady) is important, which Many would find this … [More]

When the Church celebrates Our Lady's birthdate and when Our Lady supposedly gave Vicka an alternate date is really not that important. Maybe Our Lady was letting us know the correct date for anyone interested. December 25th is probably not the actual birthdate of Christ yet we celebrate His birth on this date. The main thing to focus on in regard to Medjugorje are the fruits that come from Medjugorje and they are undoubtably good. The Church Fathers DO NOT ATTEST that Decemeber 25th is the … [More]

Whatever the outcome of the commission’s investigation into the Medjugorje phenomenon, I will still trust in Jesus. What Jesus has said in scripture is sufficient and what the Holy Fathers have said in their teachings is more than sufficient. That the number and duration of the messages exceeds previous Marian apparitions does not invalidate “Medjugorje”. Such was the dire situation on one occasion in Holy Scripture that an ass was used to speak sense where all sense had been lost. Our … [More]

About 30 yrs worth of apparitions, and still counting?

For those of you that believe these "apparitions" are true and authentic, ....what or whom will you believe if Rome declares them NOT to be of supernatural origin? That they DO NOT approve them? Will you still believe in them?

During my stay there, it seemed to bring people closer to the church and changed many lives...that was good fruit, back then....

I am pleased that Pope Benedict XVI has decided to form a commission to investigate the events that have occurred in Medjugorje since 1981. Even though the alleged apparitions are still occurring it is vital that the first hand witnesses are interviewed before age and accident silence their testimony. Some of the early utterances of the seers particularly Vicka’s are problematic but this does not discredit the overall testimony of the six seers. The seer’s messages can be repetitive but … [More]

Too bad the priest responsible for the seers (and their promotion) was an unfaithful pervert who impregnated a nun and begat children. Shades of Maciel Maciel, all over again...

In my opinion (and most likely the Holy Father's too based on his skeptical comments), this is a fabrication.

@Kevin:
kfarley  04/01/2011 14:18:23
The Church can not make any official ruling on an Apparition until it has ceased and since the Medjugorje apparitions are still ongoing the Church has made no final declaration. Our Lady is the same whether it be Fatima, Lourdes or Wisconsin-which an apparition has been approved by the Church there that occurred in I believe 1859. The Fruits of Medjugorje are good-this year in June will mark 30 years of appartions in Medjugorje. More conversions to Catholicism have resulted in Medjugorje than … [More]

Holy Cannoli  04/01/2011 13:25:39
I don't study personal revalations aside from Divine Mercy and Fatima. However, the discrepancy of Our Lady's birth date can be easilly resolved. The date has not been firmly established but has been held by the Church to be Sept 8 based on the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James.

@holyrope: There are so many mysteries...I would have to ask Vicka in person, why she made that statement. (Maybe, if I have time I can do some research on that.) Sometimes, one just has to "let go, and let God". For example, Blessed Anna Katharina Emmerick said that Our Lady "died"/was assumed into Heaven in Ephesus, but then the V. María de Jesús de Ágreda and other saints, say she "died"/was assumed into heaven in Jerusalem. Who knows?? Maybe they are both right--in some Heavenly, … [More]
