A Warning From Catholics
Italy
On January 11, Catholic Italian journalists and academics caused to appear in the Italian daily Il Foglio a supplication to the Pope, begging him not to go to Assisi next October. The authors of the letter remember the former Assisi-events. These events, according to them, re-launched - independently of the intentions and declarations of the Pope who convened it - in the Catholic world indifference and religious relativism. Quote: “The effect of this ‘praying together’, whatever its goal may be, like it or not, is to make many believe that all were praying to ‘the same God’, only with different names.”

I must have missed this campaign that Rocca is referencing. However, assuming that it exists, how does he then conclude that "most obsevers" find it to be quixotic (unrealistic)?

The confusion clerics in India can have is the deeply ingrained beliefs they have from their culture from Krya Yoga and Vedic writings. In Vedic writings the "Christ Conciousness" is something that is taught can be attained by yogic masters. Christ was viewed as a person who attained the highest level of conciousness with the Universal "God Conciousness". This is the difficulty Indian Priests can have in their Eastern culture where for centuries Vedic writings are deeply rooted in their belief system. Christ is seen by non-Christian Indians as a great yoga master and an example of what one can strive to become like rather than the exclusive Son of God. This can give quirky belief systems to especially Indian Jesuit Priests I've read from and heard interviewed.
