This morning, Benedict XVI received His Beatitude Sviatoslav Schevchuk, Major Archbishop of Kiev in Ukraine. Yesterday, the new Patriarch, with the other Ukrainian bishops and many of the faithful, was present in Saint Peter's Square for the general audience. Greeting them, Benedict XVI underlined that the new archbishop will surely preside over his Church under the action of the Holy Spirit, guiding it in faith in Christ Jesus according to its own tradition and spirituality, in communion with the See of Peter, which is the visible chain of that unity for which many of its children have not hesitated to offer even their own lives.
