Holy Cannoli  18/06/2011 09:09:16

To The Black Sheep Dog:

I have listened to 2 of your messages dating to 2011 and I just read the report posted about the SOLT position.

There is so much that I would share with you but only you as I too sense that I might a little black puppy as I am an older man. But I have stood with truth as you have so often spoken about. And you have spoken so well that T r us T is one of the essential stances to hold with. I spelled trust the way I did as that is how the Lord revealed it to me in this … [Más]

Oh dear, so it looks as if Fr Corapi desired a Roman conclusion, but was "head off at the pass" by his immediate superiors. This is indeed unfortunate!

However, as a legitimate priest of the Roman Church, he has recourse to the Holy Father, with or without help or recommendation from his Bishop or religious superiors.

I suppose he just had enough of the whole horrid thing.
ACLumsden  25/06/2011 17:34:21
Hummmm, I see. However, isn't that just on a diocesean level? (The impossible defence.)

I fail to see how this can be true of an appeal to the Magesterium. But, we shall see.
ACLumsden  25/06/2011 16:44:47
SBpfu & Philosopher - Thanks for your responses. I read the material on the link supplied by SBpfu. It says that Fr Corapi's immediate court of appeal would be the Diocesean Bishop (the Bishop having immediate authority over the superior of the community). Herein lies the problem.

However, I remain unconvinced that Fr Corapi has done the just thing in running away. If Rome were approached for final intervention, it is reckoned that the whole mess would be markely resolved. Therefore, while I … [Más]

ACLumsden, I think its both, the accusation made by a former employee of Fr. Corapi's media company, which is the prima causa, and then during the course of the investigation, he was asked to return to his order in community, under new rules, that were not in effect when he entered and was given permission to live independently. But, he was asked to return to his order, because of the investigation. I would infer from this, as fr. Corapi intimates this in his blog, that if he is in community, … [Más]

Greetings chaps! I am not American and do not know Fr Corapi or his order well at all. Permit me to ask a question if I may - First, I shall preface this with my reasoning, then posit my question.

To begin, having listened to Fr Corapi preach and talk, I get the distinct impression that he is a priest of a Diocese rather than a religious. His independence (both temporally and spiritually) betokens a priest not in religious and/or evangelical vows. This leads one to think, did Fr Corapi's … [Más]

Holy Cannoli, that's a good question, all we can do is keep the faith, raise our children well, and maintain tradition. "The gates of hell will not prevail, against her."

I think in my last post, I said, Dante was referring to a Borgia Pope, but it was rather a previous 13th century Pope. The Borgia's were in the 15th century. Mea culpa, I'm not a historian but only a philosopher by trade.

Lastly, I'm going to follow your lead, and stop commenting on the topic...since we don't know all the … [Más]

Fr. Corapi is a victim of the political correct minded, liberal and corrupt Churchmen, presently within the Church.

We all are. The question is how does a layman respond to heterdox and corrupt bishops and, more importantly in this case, how does a cleric respond?

At this point, I've said all I can say. I will reserve final analysis after the facts in this case have played out and I expect that to occur sooner rather than later.

philosopher  25/06/2011 14:26:14
Holy Cannoli, I'd say you have stated the presumed or alleged facts very well albeit we don't have access to primary or direct sources or evidence.

However, on points,

10. Rather than allow the investigation to reach its conclusion, Fr. Corapi decided to abandon the priesthood and religious life, sending a letter to his superiors to this effect.

And,

11. His superiors sought to reintegrate him into the life of his religious community, but he has not responded to this request as it “would …

The Sequence of Events

1. Based on an agreement with the founder of his order, Fr. Corapi established a Montana-based media business under his financial control.

2. At some point, Fr. Corapi pays several persons who have business dealings with him to sign non-disclosure agreements regarding events during their term of employment.

3. There is a falling-out with one non-disclosure signer, an employee (presumably 2 occurred before 3, though this is not absolute).

4. The disgruntled signer from … [Más]

I just read Fr. Corapi's updated facebook page, and would recommend all here, to read it. There is still a lot of confusion surrounding his case, but he adamantly states that 1. he has not left the Catholic Church or priesthood. 2. He has had his faculties- the priestly privileges of administering the sacraments, suspended. 3. If he submitted to the request to return to his community, he would still have his faculties suspended and be silenced. 4. His vocation remains, and has always been to be … [Más]

Padre Pio bore calumny in complete silence and "Corapi" here does just the opposite. He's passing up a great opportunity for sainthood, if these charges are false!
ACLumsden  20/06/2011 09:54:44
@Cannoli - I think therein lies a root of the problem, viz. formation. The Seminary and Noviciate ought to be rigorous testing grounds where the 'wheat' is seaprated from the 'chaff'.

My idea is that Seminarians ought to have enjoined upon them the FULL Divine Office and the night office of the Church. That spirituality and psychoanalysis be de rigeur in the formation process; they are kept in complete seclusion for the first 5 years of formation in order to purge the World from them. The last … [Más]

Yet another example for us to really pray hard for our presbyters.

Yes, I believe that prayer should be based on the principle that those strong in the faith remain strong, that more strong men are called and respond to the call and that the "weak" are marginalized and removed from active ministry.

ACLumsden  20/06/2011 08:08:41
@ Cannoli - This is one of the things that prompted my comment. How quickly the priest forgets that he IS a different man; different from all other men and how easy therefore the Devil can tempt him away from his vocation...... Yet another example for us to really pray hard for our presbyters.
Holy Cannoli  20/06/2011 07:53:02
From "The Black Sheep Dog's" own parting words and comments:

"I accept moving on, but I am not ready to be altogether extinguished just yet," Corapi added. He said he will continue to write and speak publicly on "broader" topics under the name "The Black Sheep Dog." He (Fr. John Corapi) also announced an autobiography that is "almost ready for publication.

Has he been done an injustice? Quite possibly. However, the saints were likewise persecuted and calumniated, often by the church hierarchy … [Más]

Can't one appeal to Rome?
Reesorville  18/06/2011 22:42:49
(if anyone would like to say this prayer with me)

Lord, please look after John Corapi and the people involved in this affair. Remove the sins that have created this and make those forgive, who need to forgive, and make those repent, who need to repent. Do not allow this to serve as a means for the enemy to introduce disunity among the church, but heal it of this wound and all such similar wounds. We ask for these things, if it is your will, in Jesus' name, Amen

God bless,

I just heard a mate of mine say, in relation to Fr Corapi's statement, "oh how the mighty have fallen". Upon my enquiring about the source of the comments, she said that at the apogee of Fr Corapi's 'fame' she [my friend] recalled his visit to London. In this visit she recalled the amount of female attention Fr Corapi recieved and seemed to encourage (even private conversations for the persistent).

I am NOT vouching for the veracity of this 'hear-say', but it just goes to show us all that fame … [Más]

Blackchalice

I actually do remember a few more details of that Friday some years back. It was a pro-life conference & luncheon that Bishop Gracida kindly attended. As you have pointed out, the Bishops' Conference has lifted the absolute Friday prohibition against eating meat (by substituting other forms of penance). Nevertheless, many pro-lifers still abstain from meat on Friday regardless.

The Bishop is a very strong pro-life Catholic as were all in attendance on that Friday. Many were … [Más]

Can. 1251 "Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday."

I'm no canon lawyer but to me Canon 1251 is crystal clear.

However, Can. 1253 states "The conference of bishops can determine more precisely the observance of fast and abstinence as well as substitute other forms of penance, especially works … [Más]

This is very troubling. I am uneasy with Fr. Corapi's transformation or should I say re-branding (starting with his appearance). Dare I say it, it's almost as if something sinister was taking place or he's gone off the deep end. I hope I'm wrong. I generally agree with Holy Cannoli and I believe father should have sat this one out.

Let us remember that the gift that he had was for the benefit of the listeners not because of his own merit and he admitted that much in the past. IMHO, "do as I … [Más]

Most unfortunate indeed. I rather think that His Grace, Archbishop Fulton Sheen is an excellent template for any public figure such as Fr Corapi. Pity Fr Corapi did not take His Grace's example to heart and guard his heart against his weaknesses..... But, we will not judge him, he is left unto God. Let us all keep praying for Fr Corapi.
