The school district of Anoka-Hennepin in Minneapolis, Minnesota is facing an investigation by the federal government for discriminatory practices. The district is accused of failing to advance homosexuality by not adding such lessons in its curriculum.
The district is accused of refusing to introduce lessons that would have raised awareness about lesbian, gay and transsexual issues for students starting as young as four.
Federal officials are now investigating after they received a complaint from an unnamed party that the policy of not positively promoting homosexuality breaches civil rights.
The school district has faced criticism from gay rights groups who fault the school’s neutrality policy for a series of seven student suicides in less than two years.
