Austrians Support Priests' Call for Reform: Survey
A drive for reform by Austrian priests, urging the ordination of women and an end to celibacy, is meeting with widespread support, according to a new survey published Monday.
A total 71.7 percent of Austrians found the initiative "fair and adequate," with 64.7 percent saying they would even sign a "call for insurbodination" launched in June, according to the Oekonsult polling institute.
The so-called "Priests' Initiative," signed by at least 200 clergymen, wants women and married individuals to be allowed to be ordained as priests, an end to the celibacy rule and the right for laymen to preach.
Some 86.8 percent of respondents said celibacy created more problems than it had advantages for the Church, the Oekonsult survey showed, and 84 percent believe that a refusal by the Catholic Church to reform could further alienate believers.

Simple but Orthodox Catholic, modernism is what is happening to the Church. It was spelled out brilliantly in warning by Pope St. Piux X in his Pascendi Dominici Gregis. But too many amongst us consider themselves too educated and intelligent to heed the wisdom of Popes who died before 1960. They are too old to be relevant to "modern man," after all. Yes it seems that particularly in what used to be very devout countries such as Ireland and Austria that things are going astray.
Let's keep it simple and abide to our Pope's wisdom. He knows when different practices are right to put forth and he knows when mankind is ripe for change. Devine intercession is there to help the Pope in his sheperding.

Any clergy that signed should be defrocked.

What has happened to the Church in Austria? The Catholic Church is not a Community based on opinion polls, on surveys, on majority views. It is a Community of Faith based on the Holy Gospels, Holy Tradition and the Holy Magisterium. It is a divinely instituted Community, united around the Supreme Pontiff, where Christ, and Him crucified, is preached in and out of season. Christ's Mission for His Church is not that she pacify believers but that she challenge them and guide them to Himself! May God Almighty forgive us all if we've come to the stage that we do not follow the Truth for fear of "alienating believers".
