Teponazcuicatl/The Procession of the Drum.

Mexico was conquered by the Spanish between 1519-1521. They introduced the christian religion to Mexico. Between December 9th-12th 1531, the Virgin Mary supposedly appeared to a Mexican peasant named Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin (now St Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin) at a place called Guadalupe. She spoke to him in the Nahuatl language (the Aztec language) and gave him an image of herself made of cactus fibres, which miraculously (as scientists say it should have decayed) still exists and many people make pilgrimages to Tepeyac, where they can see the image today.

This song Teponazcuicatl, which was recorded by the Franciscan Bernardino de Sahagun, is traditionally thought to have been the music that was played by the procession that carried the virgin's image from the Mexico city cathedral to the newly built shrine on Tepeyac hill on December 26 1531.

The music, melody and language are all Aztec; it is here historically reconstructed by the San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble (you can purchase their cd here: www.amazon.com/…/ref=sr_1_1)

Thanks a lot for the post -- absolutely excellent music and video. And, on a perhaps "offbeat note" i would like to say, my POV - the frequency coming from the music is very uplifting and healing 👏
