Auxiliary bishop Gerhard Wagner of Linz who was recently appointed by Pope Benedict XVI has not yet signed a letter asking for his nomination to be withdrawn. Bishop Andreas Laun, Auxiliary of Salzburg, writes in a recent article that Father Wagner cannot be considered "unsuitable" to be a Bishop - and certainly not because of his declarations. Unusual for such a situation, the Vatican still did not make any comments on the issue nor was Wagners’s resignation confirmed.
