Nearby are major streets like Via Laietana, the Placa Sant Jaume, the Generalitat's government seat and Portal de l'Angel, a pedestrian street full of shops, among other places of interest. The Cathedral was built between the XIIIth century and the XVth to honour the local patron saint, Santa Eulalia. Here are the tombs of several royals and noblemen of the County of Barcelona and the Crown of Aragon, such as Ramon Berenguer I and Alfonso III of Aragon. In 1929, the temple was declared a National Historic Artistic Monument, which explains why thousands of tourists visit each year.
