The low turnout for a Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI outside Jerusalem on May 14 has prompted inquiries from the Apostolic Nuncio. Although organizers of the papal trip expected a congregation of 5,000, only about 3,000 appeared. The area was under tight security, with tickets required for entry, and the faithful were required to arrive several hours before the Eucharistic celebration. Copies of the Bible have been confiscated by police in recent raids. National government officials have refused to comment.
