People has practiced fasting for spritual reasons since ancient time .But I practice it because I think giving a break to our digestive system at least once a week is good.This news was a good reminder forgot who have forgot their resolution to fast though

Friday fasting isn't a suffering penance at my house. I'm a great cook. Eating terrific meatless meals at the dining room table instead of the kitchen table also serves as a reminder of Christ's Passion. My Baptist husband really took notice this Lent when I took this tact. Every day is a day to evangelize. One way to a man's heart really is through his stomach.

I am 48 yrs old and I JUST found out this past Lent, while sponsoring a co-worker thru RCIA, that we Catholics are NOT required to fast
on the weekdays and Saturdays of Lent !!!!

It's been how many weeks since Lent began and I'm still apoplectic.
The RCIA instructors (mid 40s like me) both told me ...
I've never heard of such a thing.

How can we sing those old Lenten hymns and have them mean anything. Here's a goody. Remember..

"These forty days of Lent O Lord with You we fast and pray.."
