Humanly Speaking Impossible

USA

In a letter to clergy for the Year for Priests, Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley has called for a return to the theology of the presbyterate as an "intimate sacramental brotherhood" with a "corporate sense of priestly identity". The cardinal highlighted the example of the Curé d'Ars and his work in a situation that, "humanly speaking, seems impossible". "In many ways the state of crisis in the Church in his day parallels the challenging situation the Church faces in today's world, said the cardinal” – the Cardinal added.

Milingo Keeps Ordaining Bishops

Kenya

The lapsed Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo has ordained former priest Daniel Kasomo as a bishop of his “Married Priests Now” movement in a June 24 ceremony in Kenya. Milingo incurred automatic excommunication in 2006 when he ordained four men bishops without Vatican approval. Bishop Martin Kivuva of Machakos in Kenya had suspended Kasomo after he admitted he had fathered children.

Outspoken Bishop O'Donoghue

UK

Bishop Emeritus Patrick O'Donoghue of Lancaster, England, has given three talks last month to the clergy of Northampton Diocese on retreat at Ars – the English blog ‘The-Hermeneutic-of-Continuity’ has reported yesterday. The blog is run by Father Tim Finigan. He states about one comment the bishop made during the retreat: “This passage made me nearly fall off my chair”. Here it is: The bishop was speaking about a cocktail of dissent, disobedience and disloyalty in the Church. According to him it “has resulted in what I call a ‘conspiracy of silence’ amongst groups in the Church. There is no real dialogue or willingness to talk openly and honestly about our differences. For example, I don’t know why my “Fit for Mission?”-documents hit a wall of silence among the bishops in this country. All I did was re-iterate the teaching of the Church, but this has been treated as unacceptable and unspeakable. Why?”

Remains of John Paul II May to be Taken to Poland?

Italy

The National Italian TV – RAI has proposed to take remains of John Paul II to Poland for a while after his beatification. According to RAI it would be the last pilgrimage to home country of the Polish pope. John Paul’s relics would visit every big city in Poland, because the pope loved Poland so much. RAI referred to the pope’s testament in which he wrote that he wanted to be buried in Poland if possible. But he left the decision to cardinals who decided to bury the pope in Vatican according to the tradition. So the idea of the pilgrimage of the pope’s relics to Poland would be a partial fulfilment of will.

Not 100 in the United States hate the Roman Catholic Church

Not 100 in the United States hate the Roman Catholic Church, but millions hate what they mistakenly think the Roman Catholic Church is. -- Bishop Fulton J. Sheen
