‘Newsweek’ labels Obama ‘first gay president’

Newsweek is making waves by featuring President Barack Obama on the magazine's cover sporting a rainbow-colored halo with the headline, "The First Gay President."

The magazine's cover story comes a week after the president endorsed same-sex marriage during an ABC interview, reversing his position on the issue.

Obama's announcement came the day after North Carolina voted to amend their state constitution to ban gay marriage and a few days after Joe Biden announced on a Sunday morning news show he was in favor of gay marriage.

Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee for president, has reiterated his stance against gay marriage and civil unions after the president's announcement and during the graduation ceremony at Liberty University.

The author of the article, Andrew Sullivan, describes himself as politically conservative, is openly gay and Catholic.

The surprising Newsweek cover comes a week after Time raised eyebrows and dropped jaws with their cover story on attachment parenting which featured a 26-year-old mother breastfeeding her 3-year-old son who was standing on a chair.
