New Grand Master of the Order of Malta.

This Tuesday, 50 members of the Order of Malta gathered to elect a 59 year old British man, Brother Matthew Festing, as their new grand master. The primary role of this lay religious order to serve the sick. It has also become an arbiter of international law, and is recognized throughout the world as a semi-sovereign entity. With more than 100 ambassadors and action in more than 120 countries, the Order of Malta today serves to care for the sick and injured.
"The fact that we are recognized in so many countries, precisely in recent years, during the reign of our last great master, Andrew Bertie, shows the importance of our diplomatic agenda in achieving our work of charity".

Faithful to their origins, 12,500 Knights of the Order of Malta, assisted by many volunteers, serve the sick, regardless of ethnic origin or religious background. Their hospital in Bethlehem where 37,000 children have been born since 1990 is the evidence of this commitment. The Knights’ minister of health, Albrecht von Boeselager, explains the reasons.
"I believe that our action is based on our faith. (...) This is the spiritual foundation of our mission. Our goal is that the people we help experience the love of Christ through our work.”
