Samuel J. Aquila, bishop of the Fargo Diocese, will become the fifth archbishop of Denver during invitation-only ceremonies Wednesday afternoon at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.
Bishops and other Catholic Church officials will form a procession at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday from the Knights of Columbus Hall to the cathedral at 1530 Logan St., where Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the papal representative, will install Aquila as archbishop of the Archdiocese of Denver.
Vigano will read the papal letter appointing Aquila, and after the appointment is recorded, Vigano and Denver Bishop James Conley will escort Aquila to the cathedra, the seat that gives the cathedral its name and leading role in the archdiocese.

Aquila himself will then lead a celebration of the Mass. He will give the homily or sermon.
Also expected in attendance at Aquila's installation will be Cardinal James Francis Stafford, Denver's archbishop from 1986 to 1996, and Philadelphia Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, the recent former archbishop of Denver, among other bishops and clergy.
The ceremony, expected to end about 4 p.m., will be transmitted live on the Internet at www.livestream.com/archden and on the Eternal World Television Network (EWTN).
