God’s Mercy Shows Itself in the Sacrament of Confession Vatican Benedict XVI has asked to renew the celebration of the Sacrament of Confession in a message sent to the 60th Italian National Liturgical Week. The document was signed by Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. It arrives during the celebration of 35 years of entry into force of the new Rite of Penance in Italy. The text calls "to promote a revival and renewal in the celebration of the Mercy of God." Knowledge is always an Event Italy Former Florida-governor Jeb Bush, Tony Blair, Mary Ann Glendon, Robert George, the president of the European Union, and dozens of figures in European ecclesiastical, political, and intellectual life are speaking this week at the 30th Rimini Meeting, which is associated with the Communion and Liberation movement. The meeting’s theme is “Knowledge is always an Event”. In a message to the participants, Pope Benedict wrote, that “It can be asked if there is knowledge more necessary for man than the knowledge of his Creator; if there is a knowledge described more adequately by the word ‘encounter’ than that of the fundamental relationship that exists between the spirit of man and the Spirit of God.” She Now Even Runs Lourdes The fifty years old Antonia Raco suffered from a severe nerve disease. But now she uses no longer her wheelchair and has even gone for a run, after she visited to Lourdes earlier in August. The woman credits the baths at Lourdes for the ‘gift’ of her improved health. She had been in a wheelchair for four years because of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mrs Raco made a trip to the shrine at Lourdes on August 5. ''Ever since I came back I have been walking, doing everything normally, and I've even run,'' she told ANSA. Mrs Raco is from a village near the southern Italian city of Potenza. She said she would rather talk about the change as “a gift, an act of mercy, rather than a miracle.” 36 New Seminarians in the Whole of Ireland Ireland The Irish bishops' conference has reported that 36 men, some as young as 18, are beginning studies for the diocesan priesthood this year. A press release from the conference today noted that this group ranges from age 18 to the mid-40s, and that they come from a variety of education and career backgrounds. Monsignor Hugh Connolly, the president of St. Patrick's College in Maynooth, where the majority of the men will study, welcomed the new seminarians from 17 of Ireland's 26 dioceses.Gloria TV News
