Pope Francis shocked reporters with surprisingly candid comments about gays and the church. Speaking in Italian, the Pope said, “If a person is gay and seeks the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?”
While he also said homosexuality is a sin, the Pontiff went on to say, “They shouldn’t be marginalized and should be integrated into society.”
Many Catholics believe his words show a new acceptance for homosexuals and gay clergy.
“We haven’t seen a statement like that ever,” said Francis DeBernardo, executive director for New Ways Ministry . “For decades, we’ve only heard rejection, stony silence about lesbian and gay issues coming from the Vatican.”
New Ways Ministry is a coalition of Catholics that support the gay and lesbian community. “He is setting an example for discussion of these issues. He is in essence giving permission for Catholics to be more open and welcome,” DeBernardo said.

Pope John Paul II Said:
24. It is at the heart of the moral conscience that the eclipse of the sense of God and of man, with all its various and deadly consequences for life, is taking place. It is a question, above all, of the individual conscience, as it stands before God in its singleness and uniqueness. 18 But it is also a question, in a certain sense, of the "moral conscience" of society: in a way it too is responsible, not only because it tolerates or fosters behaviour contrary to life, but also because it encourages the "culture of death", creating and consolidating actual "structures of sin" which go against life. The moral conscience, both individual and social, is today subjected, also as a result of the penetrating influence of the media, to an extremely serious and mortal danger: that of confusion between good and evil, precisely in relation to the fundamental right to life. A large part of contemporary society looks sadly like that humanity which Paul describes in his Letter to the Romans. It is composed "of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth" (1:18): having denied God and believing that they can build the earthly city without him, "they became futile in their thinking" so that "their senseless minds were darkened" (1:21); "claiming to be wise, they became fools" (1:22), carrying out works deserving of death, and "they not only do them but approve those who practise them" (1:32). When conscience, this bright lamp of the soul (cf. Mt 6:22-23), calls "evil good and good evil" (Is 5:20), it is already on the path to the most alarming corruption and the darkest moral blindness. 🤦

Cathechism 2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,140 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."141 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God's will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord's Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

There is no way of correcting stupidity. The Law is: "Hate the SIN and Love the Sinner". What more need be said... How much more comments are needed.?

The Church has always taught love the sinner , hate the sin. I wonder what motivates this pope, he is clearly still finding his feet. Almighty God grant the Holy Father the gifts of wisdom and prudence and bless him with Your protection. Amen.

I wonder why the church is so hard on divorce, yet starting to lean toward okaying homosexual activity. I hope the pope has a better explaination for his message and soon.

That's what happens when WE as a church don't speak LAUD AND CLEAR.

St. Albert the Great gives four reasons why he considers homosexual acts as the most detestable ones: "They are born from an ardent frenzy; they are disgustingly foul; those who become addicted to them are seldom freed from that vice; they are contagious as disease, passing quickly from one person to another. If a person is truly gay and truly of good will and truly seeks the lord, he will give up the sin of homosexuality.

New Ways Ministry and other pro-homo "Catholics" are quite pleased with the pope's remarks. Hopefully there will be a clarification soon re: homos being ordained as priests but who knows?

If you think Pope Francis' words are new, I think you haven't read the Catechism of the catholic church, (see paragraph 2358: "They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. If you haven't heard this before, perhaps you have never heard Pope Benedict, Pope John Paul II and a host other senior clergy.

If you haven't heard this before, you should be questioning where you hear about the church from.
