Autocratic: When he appoints bishops for Argentina - 15 so far - Pope Francis often (if not always) neglects to submit his choice to the Vatican Congregation for Bishops, according to Italian journalist Sandro Magister. Accordingly, one appointment already went wrong: the one of Capuchin Father Carlos Alberto Novoa de Agustini in December as auxiliary bishop of Lomas de Zamora. Ten days later a statement from the diocese said that after mature discernment and without indicating any reasons Novoa was allowed to decline the nomination.

Abolished Only for Dioceses. The Pope has decided that from now on the honorary title “Monsignor” will accompany only that of “Chaplain of His Holiness” and will be attributed to priests over the age of 65. This decision affects only the dioceses. In the Roman curia Ecclesiastical titles will continue to flourish.

No Warm Cordiality: On January 10 Pope Francis received the “Gentlemen of His Holiness,” and he omitted parts of the initial greeting found in the prepared text which read: “Dear friends, I greet you all with warm cordiality and I thank you for your service.” Instead, the Pope said: “Dear friends, I greet you and I thank you for your service.” Sandro Magister points out that among the Gentlemen is Esteban Juan Caselli, the former Argentine ambassador to the Holy See who is also a senator in the Italian parliament. The knowledgeable papal biographer Elisabetta Piqué places Esteban in the party of the major Argentine opponents of then-cardinal Bergoglio.

Persecution: KGB spokesperson Artur Strekh has insisted to Forum 18 that the treason investigation into Catholic priest Fr Vladislav Lazar is continuing and the priest "will be brought to trial". Fr Lazar has told local journalists he cannot discuss the investigation but has again asserted his innocence. He remains under travel restrictions. Last year Fr Lazar spent 6 months in jail.

To abolish the title Monsignor is a very good decision of His Holyness Francis. here in Chur we have a young Monsignor who ist Ceremoniary Magister of the Bishop since 4 years, and now he leaves, after been nominated Monsignor at 40 years.
