To Find a Greater Good

Vatican

Yesterday, Pope Benedict XVI. visited the Roman parish St. Giovanni della Croce. In his homily he pointed out that what happens, including pain, must provide an opportunity to overcome the illusion that we can live without God. God – according to Benedict - always wants what is good for his children: “Sometimes he allows as part of the inscrutable plan of his love that they experience pain in order to find a greater good” – the pope added.

Special Commission on Medjugorje

Bosnia

Pope Benedict XVI has set up a special commission to weigh the authenticity of the reported apparitions at Medjugorje, according to Italian media reports. It seems that the commission will be chaired by Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the retired vicar of Rome. The investigation would be carried out under the auspices of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Bishop Ratko Peric of the Mostar diocese in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where Medjugorje is located, has strongly discouraged pilgrimages and warned the faithful against accepting the reality of the reported apparitions.

Israel – Palestina

The Second in Less Than a Week

Israeli police clashed with rock-throwing Palestinians on Jerusalem's Temple Mount on March 5. The confrontation-- the second in less than a week-- came after an Islamic preacher at the famous Al Aqsa mosque denounced Israel's decision to take control of two religious shrines on the West Bank. In nearby Hebron, about 100 Palestinians joined in a peaceful protest march to one of those shrines, the Cave of the Patriarchs.

Spectacular News

“I understand that Anglican Archbishop Rowan Williams may soon issue a document Romanorum coetibus” - Fr. John Zuhlsdorf has reported last night on his blog. Father continues: “In this way, Williams will create a safe haven in the very loose Anglican embrace where the editor and readers of The Tablet and National Catholic Register can keep their now traditional pottery cups, big puppets, out of tune guitars and the ICEL (= “Aissel”) translation presently in use, as well as gain the long-desired free election of bishopesses. All without the spirit-repressing domination of Rome!"
