No God: The Dutchman Jerke de Vries wrote a dissertation in agricultural technology at the University of Wageningen. In the preface he also thanked God. The University did not tolerate this reference. In order to be promoted De Vries was forced to blacken the thanksgiving in the already printed book. But he refused this selective form of self-censorship and had the whole page torn out.

Priest murdered: 69 year old Father Lázzaro Longobardi has been murdered with an iron bar next to his church in Cassàno Ionio in the homonymous Italian diocese. The victime has frequently been pressured in the past by demands for money and complained about this to the diocese and even to the police, to whom he also reported a theft in his presbytery. Cassano Ionio Bishop Nunzio Galantino is the segretary ad interim of the Italian bishops Conference and very close to Pope Francis. After the murder the maire of Cassano Ionio forbad with immediat effect all public events related to the celebration of carnival.

Holy Poverty: The Vatican has opened the gardens of the summer residence of the Pope in Castel Gandolfo to the public. The visits will be guided and last for about 90 minutes.
