Whenever Pope Francis does something (that shows how humble and gracious and loving he is), however small, like a telephone call to a sick critic, the whole wide world learns about it. (What is the point of "modesty", if not to show it off.) Pope Francis has manfiested a consistent "show-off" style, from day one! The comment by Holy Cannoli does hold water in general, but hardly in the context of Francis' repeated modesties being shown to the whole wide world to admire. Since the Pope has apparently helped a confused and troubled woman, it would be totally in coherence with the papal style to have it publicized the world over -- showing how forgiving he is. In this context, however, I find it hard NOT to believe that there is the substance of truth in the rumor, however much I hope it is not true. The refusal to affirm or deny the ascribed effective absolution on the part of the Vatican forces me to believe that there is, indeed, some burning fire where the smoke of the rumor is.
Frankly, Francis has begun to bore me and I tire of hearing about his "bit-over-the-line" comments and deeds of modest goodness. He, alas, reminds me more of Jerry Lewis in his comical days with Dean Martin than of a serious Pope, though I know that he must be taken seriously, deadly seriously. He is dangerous.
