In a 21 November announcement, President Fr Robert A. Dowd, CSC, said the earlier change caused confusion about the university’s Catholic identity. The restored wording now leads a list of five core staff values and directs employees to support Notre Dame’s mission as a global Catholic research university.

Although I agree with his assessment of Tucho, this "famous Mariologist's" personal dislikes are beyond the perview of a genuine theologian, I would think. Too many theologians today are full of 'personal' likes and dislikes when they should be 'sticking to the text'. We need more authentic theologians who are imbued with a knowledge of, and love of, the deposit of Faith as it has been revealed from God to humans, most of whom never went to a university.
