For those who may never have attended an Orthodox Church wedding service, I thought would upload a short video which offers a glimpse of how beautiful an Orthodox wedding can be. The service was filmed in the Orthodox Church of St Andrew the Apostle, Ghent, Belgium. God grant the couple many years.
“What sacrifices we make, let them be sacrifices that transform us. They are not ends in and of themselves. They are tools by which we can become a little closer to God’s image, a little closer to Christ’s life.”
As we are now in the season of Lent, a season of prayer and penance, I thought I would upload a video on the subject of prayer. It takes a particularly gifted speaker to address an audience of teenagers who are experiencing great changes in their lives. The spiritual, emotional, and physical transition from childhood to adulthood is never easy for anyone.
The prayer book referred to by Archimandrite Irenei in his talk is the “Prayer Book of the Holy Trinity Monastery” which uses traditional … [More]
“Besides fasting with your mouth by not eating certain foods, your mouth should also fast from foul language or telling lies about others. For what good is it if you do not eat meat or poultry, and yet you bite and devour your fellow man?”
True fasting is putting away evil deeds. Forgive your neighbor his offences, forgive him his debts. “Do not fast in judgments and fights.” You may not eat meat, but you devour your brother. You may not drink wine, but you do not refrain from offence. You may wait till evening to take food, but you spend the day in places of judgment.
O God, who in your providential design willed that your Church be built upon blessed Peter, whom you set over the other Apostles, look with favour, we pray, on Francis, our Pope and grant that he, whom you have made Peter’s successor, may be for your people a visible source and foundation of unity in faith and of communion. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
If I did not have the cultural heritage of being a “RomanCandle”, I would choose to be a “RussianCandle”. Whenever I have the opportunity whether at home or abroad, I like to pop into Orthodox churches to visit my neighbours from the East. My overriding reason for visiting Orthodox churches, particularly Russian Orthodox Churches, is that I like the glory and grandeur of their services and buildings. Some people may not be aware that Orthodox churches have no seating for churchgoers, other than … [More]
Ten piedad por aquellos que hacen del mal porque caminan en la oscuridad y no son capaces de ver el bien que da alegría y felicidad. Recemos por los que atacan la iglesia en la persona del Santo Padre. ¡Viva el Papa!
If you have never had the opportunity to listen to the music of D. Bortniansky, please access this video; you will certainly not regret doing so. This Ukrainian national composed a series of cherubic hymns that are unsurpassed for their spacious composition. His style is unmistakably Ukrainian! You may wonder what exactly is a cherubic hymn? It is the “song of the angels” that is sung in the Divine Liturgy after the Gospel reading to herald the “Great Entrance” (cherubic hymns are not sung on … [More]
Fr Slavko Barbarić was awarded his Doctorate in Religious Pedagogy in 1982, a specialism that made him eminently qualified in the teaching of the faith to children. He was then providentially assigned to the parish of St James in Medjugorje in 1983. Fr Barbarić was skeptical about the visions that were occurring in the area known as Medjugorje, and prudently ensured that the visionaries of Medjugorje were examined by professionals in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, and parapsychology. His … [More]
As children of Mary, let us learn to love. If we hate anything, let it be our own sinfulness and selfishness. As Christians, we are called to be icons of Christ. Do others see the love and light of Christ in us? Or do they only see the hatred and darkness of Hell? If we hate we choose the land of the eternal night, if we love we choose the land of the eternal light.
