Home Alone in the Priesthood

In August 2001, I wrote an article, “Home Alone in the Priesthood,” that was published in America magazine. My thesis was that as more diocesan priests find themselves living alone, pastoring one or more parishes, both bishops and the laity need to provide more support than was offered in the past when two, and sometimes three, priests lived together in rectories. I identified various consequences that result from priests living alone, including retention problems, an increase in health and disciplinary problems, requests for early retirement, etc. Looking back at my article twenty-five years later, I have to say that I agree with 90% of what I wrote, and that almost everything I predicted has come to pass.
While an October 14, 2025, “National Study of Catholic Priests,” provided data that supported many of my earlier findings, the recent study did not adequately explain “Why Are So Many Young Priests Leaving Ministry?” Even though the study identified “burnout” and “loneliness” …

Five arrested over plot to attack German Christmas market
Five men have been arrested in Germany suspected of being involved in a plot to drive a vehicle into people at a Christmas market.
Three Moroccans, an Egyptian and a Syrian were detained on Friday over the plan to target a market in the southern Bavarian state. Authorities said they suspected an "Islamist motive".
Prosecutors said the Egyptian - a 56-year-old - was alleged to have "called for a vehicle attack... with the aim of killing or injuring as many people as possible". The Moroccans allegedly agreed to carry out the attack.
Officials in Germany have been on high alert after previous attacks at Christmas markets, including in Magdeburg last December
that killed six people.
Authorities did not say when the planned attack was supposed to take place or which market was the target, though said they believed it to be one in the Dingolfing-Landau area, north east of Munich.
German newspaper Bild reported the Egyptian man was an …

Spotlights are on the Vatican's Supreme Court, which will meet next January 9, in the afternoon, to decide whether to recuse the Promoter of Justice, Alessandro Diddi, and exclude him from the appeal for the so-called London Trial. The recusal is seen by all as a sort of test on the actual independence of the judging panel, and it was requested in September by the defendants' defenses when they raised Diddi's incompatibility due to a series of interceptions that emerged in the spring, revealing that, in the first instance, the then prosecutor was aware of the manipulations made by the main prosecution witness, Monsignor Alberto Perlasca. In practice, the messages (thousands of them) exchanged between PR Francesca Chaouqui and Genoveffa Ciferri weigh heavily, as the two women, amidst the complexities of this tangled affair, would have inspired at different levels the memoir drafted by Perlasca, the main accuser of Cardinal Becciu. Chicago Public Lesbian "Returns to Church" - without Conversion

On 12 December, MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow — a lesbian and a prominent progressive American voice — announced that she considers herself to have returned to the Catholic Church. She lives with an artist named Susan Mikula in a same-sex "marriage".
According to TheLettersFromLeo.com, Maddow made these remarks during a question-and-answer session at a local event in Chicago. An audience member asked for her thoughts on the election of Pope Leo XIV.
In her response, Maddow praised both Pope Francis and Pope Leo XIV. The Church had just said goodbye to Pope Francis, when along came Pope Leo XIV, who shares Francis's passion for illegal immigrants.
She said the timing was so perfect that it was "like it was just grown in a lab" against "cruelty to immigrants".
Maddow was raised in a conservative Catholic family, but left the Church around 30 years ago for her homosexual lifestyle. Referring to her current outlook, she told the audience, "I do consider myself to be back in the faith".
She …More

Beata Vergine del Patrocinio - December 14th, 2025 | No Greater Delight
No Greater Delight is a daily Marian podcast meant to start the day with a Marian touch. After examining the Marian feasts celebrated throughout the world on a given day, Fr. Nate offers a brief reflection to help make our love for Our Lady concrete in daily living. The title "No Greater Delight" is inspired by a homily of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, wherein he expresses his joy in preaching about the Virgin Mother, even though he acknowledges the challenge of adequately praising her. Mary's greatness is beyond words. 0:00 Feasts of Mary Today 03:23 True Devotion to Mary WhatsApp Channel: Catholic Voice Links: catholicvoice | Instagram, Facebook | Linktree

BEATA VERGINE DEL PATROCINIO
Faenza14 dicembre 1954 – Incoronazione

Prevost exploits Our Lady of Guadalupe on her feast day, shamelessly defying her message by promoting paganism and thereby violating the First Commandment

The "Mother of the true God" destroys the heresy of the religious indifferentism promoted by Prevost.
Just ten years after the conquest of Mexico, the Blessed Virgin appeared in Tepeyac, Mexico. She used an Indian recently converted to the Catholic faith called Juan Diego on Tuesday, December 12, 1531 to bring out the idolatry of the Native Indians. She was presented as "the perfect ever Virgin Saint Mary, Mother of the true God" to make known the Gospel of her son Jesus Christ to the native Indians of the New Continent.

´Know thou, O my beloved child, that I am the Ever Virgin Mary, Mother of the true God, the Author of Life, Creator of all, the Lord of Heaven and Earth, Who is present everywhere´
Nine million inhabitants converted to Christianity. That for centuries they had professed a polytheistic religion and practiced the most cruel human sacrifices.
One of the first Franciscan Fathers, Toribio de Benavente, affirmed in 1537, just six years after after the appearance of Our Lady …

Conor McGregor, a mixed martial arts fighter, married his long-term partner, Dee Devlin, out of all places in Vatican City. The couple have been together for over 15 years and share four children. They wed at the Chiese di Santo Stefano degli Abissini on Friday, with more than 150 guests in attendance. The priest who officiated acknowledged McGregor’s controversial past, saying: “I’m aware of it, but what can I do?” The wedding comes shortly after McGregor lost a civil appeal related to the Nikita Hand case, in which a damages award against him was upheld.

Why Good People Still Miss The Kingdom
True commendation comes from the Lord, not from ourselves. We cannot justify our actions to Him, as He already knows our motives and will reveal them to us. To be commended, we must not only believe in Jesus but also love Him, putting our faith into practice through a life of prayer and charity.

Blessed János Brenner: The “Hungarian Tarcisius” | Young Priest & Martyr for the Eucharist
Blessed János Brenner (1931–1957) was a young Hungarian Cistercian priest and martyr whose short life shone with extraordinary love for Jesus and the Eucharist. Ordained at just 24, he became known for his joyful youth ministry, drawing many young people back to the faith during a time of harsh communist persecution in Hungary. Because his ministry threatened the authorities, János was targeted. In 1957, he was deceived by a false request to bring Holy Communion to a sick person. On his way through the woods, he was ambushed and stabbed 32 times. He was found the next day, dead — still clutching the Eucharist he had been carrying to the supposed dying person. For this reason, he is lovingly called the “Hungarian Tarcisius,” after the early Christian martyr who died protecting the Blessed Sacrament. Beatified by Pope Francis in 2018, Blessed János is a powerful witness to courage, purity of …More
