New Bishop: Pope Francis has named Bishop James Johnston of Springfield-Cape Girardeau as the new bishop of Kansas City-St Joseph. He suceeds good Bishop Robert Finn who was unjustly forced by the Vatican to resign. In the past, Johnson has spoken out against homosex pseudo-marriage and against a proposed Springfield ordinance that would have added so-called sexual orientation and gender identity to the city’s list of privileged classes.

Heterodox Agenda: According to Voice of the Family, Pope Francis has personally appointed leading opponents of Catholic doctrine to the upcoming Synod on the Family. Voice of the Family names the following prelats: Former Brussels Cardinal Danneels, Wellington Cardinal Dew, Cardinal Kasper, Tegucigalpa Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga, Vienna Cardinal Schönborn, Washington Cardinal Wuerl and Chicago Archbishop Cupich. Voice of the Family concludes: “The Synod has a heterodox agenda and many of the prelates attending it have already shown themselves either supportive of that agenda or unwilling to resist it.”

Catholic Divorce: Pope Francis has abolished the obligatory double decree of nullity. Sandro Magister notices that this was already permitted in experimental form between 1971 and 1983 in the ecclesiastical tribunals of the United States. But the concession was revoked after a flood of nullity decrees issued by the tribunals and the bad reputation of “Catholic divorce” that was the result. Magister calls Pope Francis’ reform a – quote – “a colossus with feet of clay”.

Suicide: This photo was taken last Saturday. It shows how the Jesuits of Valencia, Gandía and Alicante, Spain, presided Mass on the occasion of the fiftieth priestly anniversary of Fr Angel López Martín and Fr Eduardo Serón and the installation of a new superior of the community. The blog La Cigüeña de la Torre comments: “They have committed suicide and are even proud of it.”
