The Swiss Guard: A consistent evangelical witness.

Yesterday was a memorable day for the Corps of the Swiss Guard with the swearing in of 33 recruits in the Cortile di San Damaso in the presence of the Deputy Secretary of State, Archbishop Fernando Filoni, and other authorities.
May 6 is the anniversary date of the sacrifice of 147 soldiers, who died protecting Pope Clement VII during the attack on Rome in 1527. The day began with Mass celebrated by Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone for the Swiss Guard and their family and friends, with the authorities, in Saint Peter's Basilica. In the homily, Cardinal Bertone pointed out that the service of the Swiss Guard is a true apostolic mission, which demands high professional competence and a firm and deep faith which is to be translated into a consistent, daily evangelical witness.
