Yeah, Secular culture is just like that. Especially in China and Taiwan. I live in Taiwan and the importance of how someone looks is really rediculous. Men very commonly wear makeup over here. It's really gross. The level of materialism in China is absoutletly absurd and many people eventually feel horrible about it, or they feel so horrible about the loss of being able to have any wealth to maintain their status they kill themselves. All too often people commit suicide over it. The one big problem that I see is that Protestantism has a huge advantage over Catholicism in China and Taiwan, and Protestantism very often allows or encourages this kind of materialism as being a sign of sucess given by God and it drives people into secularism. I just worry more that the USA could become as Secular as China and that would be even more ugly.
