Controversial Statue for John Paul II.

Rome

A massive statue of Blessed John Paul II was unveiled on May 18 outside the busiest subway station in Rome. The statue has drawn strongly negative public reactions. The modernistic sculpture by Oliviero Rainaldi shows the Pontiff opening his cloak in what the sculptor calls a gesture of embrace. Critical comments have centered on the awkwardness of that posture and on the face of the statue—which, several Romans have said, resembles Benito Mussolini more than John Paul II.

Divorce Propaganda in Malta

Malta

Less than two weeks before a nationwide referendum on the legalization of divorce, Bishop Mario Grech of Gozo said in a homily that dissenting Catholics should not receive Holy Communion. Bishop Grech said: “Beware of the wolf in sheep’s clothing. And the wolf is now saying he is Catholic.” This statement referred to a pro-divorce Catholic organization. The Bishop continued: “This is a falsity, this is deceit. I am ready to dialogue with everyone but do not be false, do not lie. If you are not in communion with Christ’s teachings, you are not in communion with the Church and you cannot receive Communion.” “There are the brigands among us who are utilizing every means possible to lead the flock astray. They are going after marriage, and then other things will follow” – the bishop said.

Homosexual Priest Arrested

Italy

Father Riccardo Seppia was the parish priest of the Holy Spirit Parish in Genova. But now he is charged of sexual assault against young boys (around 16) and drags. The priest was suspended by the Genoa archdiocese after his arrest last week. Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco of Genoa took the unusual step of traveling to Father Seppia’s parish last weekend to denounce the priest’s crimes. Now authorities have arrested another man, Emanuele Alfano, a former seminarian who has reportedly said that he procured young men for Seppia.

Re-Installing Epiphany and the Ascension

UK

The bishops of England and Wales will decide at their November meeting whether to reverse a 2006 decision and transfer the celebration of the Epiphany and the Ascension again from Sunday back to their traditional days. If the transfer is approved, January 6 and Ascension Thursday will become holy days of obligation. Archbishop Vincent Nichols of Westminster commented: “The Epiphany and the Ascension are still part of the rhythm of many people’s lives in this country, and so we are weighing up how we stand”. He added: ““Bishops have gone away [from their May meeting] ready to listen to their priests and their people as to what is to be best gained, either by marking those two days in the rhythm of the calendar or with the advantages of an easier and fuller liturgical celebration of them on a Sunday”.

The days when a bishop or cardinal can say that black is white or down is really up are long gone. Oftentimes the laity is more educated with more common sense than high ranking clerics This creation demonstrates a pathetic display of a lack of artistic talent despite the fawning remarks made by several Italian clerics.

My faith in the artistic appreciation of the Populi Romani has been reaffirmed.

This coupled with the Anglican Ordinariate AND the many many conversions back to Rome; and the recent custom of inviting Roman Catholic priests to celebrate Mass regularly on the ancient altars of the ex-monastic churches [C of E Cathedrals], is indicative of a future where the Dowery of Our Lady returns to Rome! 👏

This is a movement, like all real movements of the HOly Spirit, from the ground levels...... Her Majesty and Her Majesty's Parliament must watch out! They just may find themselves governing a church which is no long extant - but quite Roman!! 👌 🙂
