Ecumenism at Catholic Universities.

Catholic universities, such as Jesuit run Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, work to develop the religious growth of students of other faiths.

The Dean of the College of Communication, Dr. William Thorn, participated in the first Congress of Communication for Catholic Universities in Rome, organized by the Pontifical Council of Social Communication.

“Now, about a fourth of our students are not Catholic, and so we have to work with them to help them understand in their own religious tradition, how communications and communication ethics might work”.

Many students share the same goals, regardless of religious beliefs, and Marquette University aides them in their quest to find God in all things.

“Students want to learn above all how to pray. They are looking for different ways to pray. They may not come from a home where prayer was regular. They want to know how to get to know God better”.

This University has a special program called “Manresa,” named after the city of Ignatius’ conversion experience.

“Manresa is a program to help students discover their vocation, whether it's to married life, or education, or whatever, but also in religious terms”.

“The goal in all of this is to help them gradually unfold how they will use their skills to change the world”.
