No Miracles in Austria

Austria

The numbers of people leaving the Church in Austria are usually made available during August every year. This year the number are so dreadful that nothing is to be published until January 2011. Chris Gillibrant comments on his weblog: “They are clearly hoping something will turn up- but for the post-Conciliar church the age of miracles is long passed.”

Hope Should Encourage

Vatican

Yesterday, before the Angelus prayer, Pope Benedict XVI taught the importance of leading our lives with trust and hope in the coming of the Lord. This hope, he said, should encourage us to "an intense life, rich with good works."

St Peter Was Jailed in Rome’s Maximum Security Prison

Italy

Archaeologists have found evidence supporting a traditional belief that St Peter was jailed in Rome’s maximum security Mamertine Prison before he was crucified. The prison lies beneath the Church of St Joseph of the Carpenters facing the Roman Forum. It was closed for the past year as experts dug up old floors and picked away plaster. They found a 14th-century fresco of Jesus with his arm around a smiling St Peter and an 11th-century fresco of Jesus with the oldest known image of the Campidoglio, Rome’s city hall, behind him.

When Christian Religion is Rejected a Torrent of Evil Flows Form This Source

Internet

The website “Acts of the Apostasy” has published an interesting quote from Pope Leo XIIIth from the year 1880: "When the Christian religion is rejected and repudiated, marriage sinks of necessity into the slavery of man's vicious nature and vile passions, and finds but little protection in the help of natural goodness. A very torrent of evil has flowed from this source, not only into private families, but also into States. If men are hindered by law from carrying out the shameful desire to divorce, they contend that the laws are iniquitous, inhuman, and at variance with the rights of free citizens; adding that every effort should be made to repeal such enactments, and to introduce a more humane code.” The blog comments: These words were written in regards to divorce. But they are uncannily apt in the case of so-called same sex marriage as well.
