Oslo: Norway attacks.
AlJazeeraEnglish on Jul 22, 2011 Around 17 people have been killed in two separate attacks in Norway, shocking the generally peaceful Scandinavian country.
A bomb blast exploded near a government building in Oslo, killing seven people and hours later, a gunman disguised as a police officer opened fire at a youth camp of the ruling Labour party on Utoya island, killing 10 others.
A 32 year old Norwegian man has been arrested in connection with both attacks.
Police believe the two attacks were linked, but they say these were self-motivated attacks rather than the work of international militant groups.

It appears that what motivated Anders Behring Breivik to perpetrate the most destructive act of terrorism by the far-right in Europe since 1945 was his hatred for Muslims, Marxists and various members of the Norwegian Parliament. This disturbed individual mocked and laughed whilst he shot the adults and children.

Drat! I was affraid of 'copy-cat' bombers in this fashion! Interesting how easily chaps descend unto such violent deeds when their views (however illogical and pathological) are not accepted. What is it about these chaps who wish to inflict themselves upon civilised folk? Is it a grave lack of social belonging, or some sociopathic deviance?

One cannot compare this Oslo incident with the London bombings and those of across the pond - different perpetrators with different motives. However, the act itself and its human consequences are similar and we in the United Kingdom do hold our Norwegian brothers in our hearts fast with prayers of love and support.

Is the solution to political problems 'the bomb'? Norway of all places, has been a rock of political and social sability for decades! The perpetrator(s) must have had foreign influence and assistance.... 😡

The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a 32-year-old man (Anders Behring Breivik) , whom they identified as a Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections, over the bombing of a government center here and a shooting attack on a nearby island that together left at least 91 people dead.

I doubt that someone with Christianity as his core religious belief would commit such an act of violence. It makes no sense. Certainly it makes more sense that someone sympathetic to Muslims would do such a thing...if the perp is a Muslim, or supporter of Islamic terrorists.

Secondly, I thought that in Norway "right wing" was the opposite of our right wing here. In Europe, I thought "right wingers" were the equivalent of our far "left wingers" as related to political ideals. Has this changed? It would not surprise me if the media purposely overlooked the difference and decided to allow it to be misunderstood.
