Communications and the Culture of Peace.

The World Catholic Association for Comminication, Signis, held a conference in Rome to mark the 80th anniversary of its founding. On this occasion H2onews interviewed the program director of the Lebanese Catholic television company, Tele Lumiere, Mary Kreidy, who spoke about the importance of having Catholic media in the Middle East.

"Lebanon is a country that has an important role in the Middle East, the cradle of Christianity. In it we encounter different civilizations and cultures, as well as many religions.

And this is a key reason for the existence of Christian media in Lebanon. Through Tele Lumiere and Noursat we spread the message of the Gospel and of Christian love throughout the Middle East and the whole world.

We are gathering efforts to build a culture of peace. We know that the Middle East has suffered from many conflicts and wars, Lebanon in particular has suffered from a war which lasted thirty years and has affected many in the Christian community and other communities."

Kreidy also spoke about the role of religions in a country like Lebanon, a country of culture, civilization and peace. She also highlighted the importance of communication with the Lebanese expatriates and the importance of exposing the world to the suffering of Christians in the Middle East.

"Today, religions have to be foundations of reconciliation and building the culture of peace and dialogue, which is essential in a country like Lebanon. We hope that Christian media will play a big role in this peace project. Lebanon, said the late Pope John Paul II, is a message, a country of culture, civilization and peace."

In conclusion, the director of programs in Tele Lumiere expressed her hope that the participation of Christian media in this conference will ensure continuity with the Christians who have left the Middle East.
