Victory: The U.S. Supreme Court has exempted Hobby Lobby from Obamacare contraception mandate. The court ruled that closely-held firms like Hobby Lobby are protected by the Religious Freedom Restoration Act which dictates that an individual's religious expression shouldn't be "substantially burdened" by a law unless there is a "compelling government interest." Hobby Lobby founder David Green is the son of an Assemblies of God preacher. Quote: "We're Christians, and we run our business on Christian principles."

A Great Day for Religious Freedom: The U.S. bishops have called the Hobby Lobby Victory a – quote – great day for the religious freedom. Quote: “We welcome the Supreme Court’s decision to recognize that Americans can continue to follow their faith when they run a family business.” And: “Now is the time to redouble our efforts to build a culture that fully respects religious freedom.” The bishops hope that Catholic charities, hospitals and schools will prevail in their cases as well.

They Persist in Sin: On June 25, Cardinal Thomas Collins of Toronto has explained why twice married people are not allowed to receive Holy Communion. According to Collins they continue - for whatever reason - on a path that objectively violates Christ’s clear command. Collins points out that this is not about a sin that is committed once but about a conscious decision to live permanently in sin.

Cardinal Calls Catholic Doctrine Crazy: Last week Fr Tarcisio Vicario, parish-priest of Cameri, Italy, explained in his parish letter why twice-married people may not receive Communion. He made a distinction between an occasional sin – giving the example of murder – and people living in adultery explaining that a sinner cannot be forgiven of a sin he wants to persist in. His own bishop Franco Brambilla of Novara did not defend Vicario. Even the secretary of the Synod of Bishops, Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri got involved in the matter slamming the priest’s correct explanation as – quote – “madness.”
