With the blessing of the Church: Fr Rafic Greiche, a spokesman for the Catholic Church in Egypt, refused to call the toppling of president Mohammed Morsi by military forces a “coup d'état”. According to him, the army chose to protect a peaceful revolution led by millions of young people. Both the Catholic and Coptic Orthodox Churches back the change in the country's leadership.

Shocked by the luxury: Msgr. Nunzio Scarano is the Vatican official who was arrested last week on charges of financial misconduct. Italian police have disclosed that Scarano lives in an affluent section of Salerno in a luxurious apartment lined with expensive artwork. Policeman who were summoned there in January were shocked by the luxury of the residence. Scarano called police to report the theft of several works of art valued at millions of dollars. He said that his possessions all came from donations. Scarano had been director of accounting for the Administration of the Patrimony of the Apostolic See until he was suspended because of separate money-laundering charges.

An absurd privilege for a tiny minority: Jean-Michel Colo - the mayor of the small Southern French town Arcangues – has announced that he will not perform so called gay marriages because – quote – “they are a farce." According to Colo, the new French gay marriage law gives an inadequate and absurd privilege for a tiny minority. The seven members of his council agree with Colo. The French gay law imposed by the Socialists provides severe penalties for non-compliance. Whoever, as a public official, denies or impedes the implementation of the law faces five years in prison, up to a 75,000 euro ($97,000 USD) penalty and the immediate removal from office. Interior Minister Manuel Valls has already threatened Mayor Colo.

Supported by the U.S. and other Western countries: The Belgian Norbertine priest Fr. Daniel Maes, 74, is in the sights of jihadist groups who intend to eliminate him and invade his Greek- Catholic monastery of Saint James the Mutilated located in Qara, 90 km north of Damascus. The Jihadists are supported by the U.S. and other Western countries. The monastery is situated on a border area between warring groups and could be utilized as a military base for the rebels. According to Fides Agency, each line of communication with the monastery is interrupted. The monks living in St. James belong to 9 nationalities. In past months, the monastery was at the center of gunfire and was hit and damaged by the bombing. Fr Maes denounced the "ethnic cleansing" carried out on Christians by the rebels and by jihadist groups.
