Fides et Ratio would argue that your view is valid. BUT, always seek God. How does one SEEK good through prayer and study of His word (St Dominic and St Benedict!). Let us not be intellectually lazy, for intellectual laziness breeds spiritual sloth! Recall Thomas Aquinas' maxim that 'grace builds on nature'? If the nature is not cultivated, what can grace build upon........ think about it! πŸ€— πŸ˜‡

LOL!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ - Ira dear....you are too funny! All I am saying is that, according to John Paul II in Fides et Ratio the human soul "soars toward heaven on the wings of Faith and Reason". Faith is that trust you speak of BUT this faith is fed and shaped by the Reason, or intellect through study! Go have a look at that encyclical.... πŸ™‚

@greg - And how does one KNOW what to obey? By understanding WHAT the Lord our God says in scripture and how His Church on earth teaches it. @IRA et Co - I see..... therefore, the gift of knowledge is spured by Acederilla. That topic of the entire book of Wisdom and many of the Letters of St Paul, viz. knowledge, to do that which is right, is irrelevant to Acederilla. Love without wisdom and knowledge is not possible dears........ mature love that is....but then you chaps shrive after an infantile love (quite unlike the Pauline injunction "when I was a child I spoke as a chile...etc"). How interesting....

Oh rather....! How else do we learn from each other.... πŸ˜‡ The Dogmatic constitution on the Laity is quite enlightening....it draws upon Trent and Papal documents of Leo XIII Pius X etc..... not to mention John XXIII and Paul VI! πŸ‘ πŸ€—

@IRA - Are you therefore saying that unless one is a Saint, one cannot challenge authority? Were they Saints when they were doing their action? Is a Saint greater in the kingdom of God than a child of God or a Priest? Does God have the power to use only the "pure of heart" and saints?

If not, what do we go to Mass for? Ira, I challenge your understanding of Sainthood and your understanding of the Laity or The People of God, the Body of Christ.... God works through ANYONE of HIS members of His body. (See the Dogmatic constitution on the Laity - Vat.II)

ACL, I must soon phone my mother-yes, like a little girl-one last thing:Even Blessed Anna Katharina Emmerick criticized THEOLOGY MAJORS from the UNIVERSITY OF BONN-AND I KNOW ONE WHO FITS THE PICTURE PERFECTLY!

As the Lord said, we must be like little children in order to enter his Kingdom...
ACL, what has helped me a lot is reading the Lives of the Saints--Yes, they may have challenged authority, in their own way, BUT DEEP DOWN THEY WERE VERY HUMBLE... Maybe we will not agree-yet, πŸ˜‡ The Peace of the Lord, dear Brother....

@IRA - One ought to understand that business about the wrath of God. To say that we are dumb and silent in the presence of a priest is to say that he supresses or superceeds our God given gift of intellect. Who in the past has God chosen to reform the Church, introduce new dogma and instigate correction of the clergy? Sts francis of Assisi who challenged his Bishop; little children in Fatima and A little girl called Bernadette in Soubereau France to introduce new dogma; a native american to introduce Our Lady of Guadalupe....... NONE we clerics!!!

Therefore, God Himself choses the laity to effect change in His Church. Fear of God's wrath for speaking against (constructively) the Clergy MUST NEVER reduce us into silience. This is a timidity which bears no fruit and is quite infantile. πŸ˜‡

Indeed, the HOly Father is already bearing a most punishing Cross; squarely place upon his shoulders by the unfaithful Bishops and Clerics of our Church. It is this to which we are refering to when we point the finger of Jeremiah at the Cleric in this video. As EJG has said, this priest is a Paulist Father; an order known for the "cake and grape juice" consecrations and rather protestant liturgy and preaching.

BECAUSE HE IS PRIEST DOES NOT MEAN THAT WE SWALLOW WHAT HE SAYS UNQUESTIONED! The days for this have gone; there are too many of us out here who are MORE educated than even the priests! Therefore, what can they offer? A heart filled with Jesus the Christ manifested by fidelity to Rome, Scripture and to tradition. When we do not get this we MUST complain......

ACL πŸ€— ACL, Acederilla is a very nice person-the way she writes gives me peace and serenity...Please be kind to her... I understand what you are saying about the Mass--Blessed Anna Katharina Emmerick saw, THE GREAT APOSTASY IN THE PRESENT CHURCHΒ :
"Among the strangest things that I saw, were long processions of bishops. Their thoughts and utterances were made known to me through images issuing from their mouths. Their faults towards religion were shown by external deformities ... I saw what I believe to be nearly all the bishops of the world, but only a small number were perfectly sound. I also saw the Holy Father - God-fearing and prayerful. Nothing left to be desired in his appearance, but he was weakened by old age and by much suffering. His head was lolling from side to side, and it dropped onto his chest as if he was falling asleep ...Then I saw that everything pertaining to Protestantism was gradually gaining the upperhand, and the Catholic religion fell into complete decadence. Most priests were lured by the glittering but false knowledge of young school-teachers, and they all contributed to the work of destruction. In those days, Faith will fall very low, and it will be preserved in some places only, in a few cottages and in a few families which God has protected from disasters and wars. "

@IRA - INDEED!!! At last some good wisdom here..... one ought always to know what the Church requires of us; study the Lex Credendi - WHAT we believe. Then, and only then, we can see the Lex Orandi - HOW we pray - as handed down by the Church; again study is required.
