Frightful Perspective

Ireland

Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston will submit a report to the Pope in which he will warn him that the Irish Church is on the verge of national collapse. Last May, the Pope appointed Cardinal O'Malley as "apostolic visitor" to the Dublin archdiocese in the wake of reports about sexual clerical abuses. The Boston archbishop believes that the Church in Ireland has at most 10 years to avoid being completely marginalized.

Homosexual Activists Picket Outside Chicago Cathedral

USA

On the eve of Valentine's Day some 60 homosexual activists picketed outside Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago. Cardinal Francis George said in response: “The demonstrators protest against Catholic Church teaching on the immorality of homosexual genital relations and opposition to so called ‘gay marriage.” The cardinal asked, that “Catholics should be able to worship in peace, without fear of harassment”. He added: “An open display of prejudice against the Catholic Church because of resentment of Church teachings favors civil discourse in our society.”

The Next Book Is Underway

Vatican

Andrea Tornielli of Il Giornale has reported that the Vatican publishing house is printing 300,000 copies of the second volume of the Pope's work on Jesus. It will be released on March 11. The first volume, released in 2007, covered the birth and childhood of Jesus. The new work focuses on the Passion and Resurrection. It will be simultaneously published in several languages, with the English edition available from Ignatius Press.

Labour Means Abortion

Ireland

Irish Catholic commentator David Quinn has provoked a controversy by arguing that in the country's coming elections, voters who choose the Labour Party will be advancing the cause of legal abortion. Labour leader Eamon Gilmore said that he would support legislation to liberalize Ireland's abortion law. Ruth Cullen of the ProLife Campaign concluded that Labour was betraying its claim to serve the needy. The controversy was underlined when the Equality Chairman for the Labour Party said flatly: "I support and want abortion on demand in Ireland now."

False Accusation Against a Priest

UK

Emma Templeton, a female Catholic chaplain at John Henry Newman College in Birmingham, England, has confessed to have fabricated a rape charge against a priest with whom she had worked on an earlier assignment. The priest had been ousted from his post as a pastor in Birmingham after Mrs Templeton filed rape charges. But then police discovered dozens of text messages on her cell phone that supported the claim of the priest’s defense that they had a short, consensual affair. A court has sentenced Templeton to a suspended sentence of 10 months in prison for filing the false charge.

For Francis Cardinal George this is a strong statement and I'm pleased that he said it. The local print media covered the protest but the TV news was silent. Why? Does TV news now favor the Catholic Church's teaching on homosexuality?

Forgetaboutit. The reason the TV news reports were silent about this protest is that the producers of the news are beginning to realize that homosexuals are going too far with their protests and the public at large would realize it if this kind of protest were to be televised. So, although the leftists in news and entertainment still favor homosexual anything, they know that displaying images of homosexuals protesting outside the Chicago Cathedral would be counterproductive to their agenda.
