Bishops Fight Against Misinformation By Pro-Gay-Marriage Advocates

Archbishop John Nienstedt of St. Paul together with the Bishops of Minnesota have launched a campaign to educate Catholics on the longstanding misinformation-propaganda campaign by pro-same-sex-marriage advocates. The Archbishop announced Monday that every Catholic in the state would be mailed a DVD defending marriage as between one man and one woman. Nienstedt appears at the beginning of the eight-minute video presentation that was produced by the Knights of Columbus.

No Catholic Fundraising With Casinos

Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, has directed all Catholic schools and institutions in the archdiocese to stop using “casino nights” and other gambling ventures for their fundraising campaigns. The archbishop's order does not apply to parish Bingo games and similar local efforts, but to commercial gambling operations from which parishes and schools take a percentage of the proceeds.

The Devil Has No Horns, Wings or a Tail

Spanish exorcist Fr. Jose Antonio Fortea Cucurull stated in an interview last week that though Satan does indeed exist, he does not have “horns, wings or a tail.” Fr. Fortea is studying for his doctorate in Rome. In an interview with the newspaper El Tiempo during his recent visit to Colombia, Fr. Fortea said that the devil is an invisible, bodiless entity. The priest recalled that “at the end of the 'Our Father' we say, ‘Deliver us from evil’.” According to Fr Fortea faithful should seek the counsel of a priest if they suspect someone is possessed.

1,150 Religious Agreed to Donate Their Brains for Autopsy

Some 1,150 members of religious orders-- priests, brothers, and nuns -- have taken part in a 17-year-old study to find treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, the nation’s seventh-leading cause of death. The participants take part in annual cognitive tests and have agreed to donate their brains for autopsy after death. “When I heard about this, I thought maybe I could help so other people would not have to go through this,” said Dominican Sister Christine Althaus.
