In the darkness of doubt, look to Bethlehem.

The Cardinal of Barcelona, Archbishop Lluís Martínez Sistach, encourages Christians not to lose heart and to look to Bethlehem in order to rediscover God, who is Love itself:

“What is essential is to turn to Bethlehem, to not grow tired when the path that one follows is often shrouded by the darkness of doubt, by the loneliness of the search and by restlessness and uncertainty.”

The Cardinal believes that it is vital to return to the most authentic meaning of Christmas.

“That child in the cave of Bethlehem not only inspires love, but is Himself Love personified. He is the manifestation of the love of God towards humanity.”

For the archbishop of Barcelona, this Christmas is an antidote to fear, even in Europe itself.

“Whoever said that Europe, at the beginning of the 21st century, seemed like an ancient continent, full of fear, enslaved to an academic pride and as cold as an icy glacier was right. This Europe, with its Christian roots, has to return to the cave of Bethlehem in order to learn, once again, the message of true love.”
