Important Goals of the Pauline Year.

June 28 will mark the inauguration of the Pauline Year, an opportunity to rediscover the figure of the Apostle of the Gentiles. The Archpriest of the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome, Cardinal Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo, reminds us of the occasion.

"The Pope has said very clearly that the Pauline Year must make known to Catholics and to Christians in general who St. Paul is, what he represents, and what he has done and has said."

The two goals at the center of the jubilee year are: to deepen the teaching of St. Paul, whose reading is not always easy, and to encourage an ecumenical perspective.

"Often St. Paul is not well known. He is very often quoted in the everyday liturgy, cited continuously, but some of his writings are rather hermetic, difficult. We must better understand them, analyze them, study them." "A second purpose that the Pope has given is an ecumenical one: that is, to act, to work for, and pray for the unity of Christians. No other basilica, no other church as St. Paul Outside the Walls has this particular task for unity. Pray and act in unity."
