Abortion and the trivialization of life.

The trivialization of human life and the difficulties in protecting the life of the unborn were the themes of the first "Convention on Abortion and the Constitution" held at the Abat Oliba CEU (UAO) University of Barcelona on December 11 and 12.

José Miguel Serrano Ruiz Calderón, Professor of the Philosophy of Law at the Complutense University of Madrid underlined that the mentality that abortion "sets you free" is unfortunately being spread more and more.

On the other hand, José Luis Requero Ibáñez, Magistrate of the National High Court and former Voting Member of the General Council of the Judicial System, mentioned that "it is the Government's duty to protect the life of the unborn as the Constitutional Court indicates". The doctrine of the Constitutional Court in Spain also states that "the rights of the woman cannot be placed above those of the unborn", he explained. In general, he recalled that "human life has been greatly trivialized" and criticized the fact that "the other abortion, the acceptable abortion, is welcomed even by those who are against abortion."

Fernando Rey Martínez, Professor of Constitutional Law at the Valladolid University said that it is necessary to define the unborn as a human being, recalling that this is "a very serious problem of which no political party assumes responsibility" and in which there is "a tremendous cowardice on the part of everyone."

The gathering ended with the intervention of the president of the Catholic Propagandists Association, Alfredo Dagnino, the Grand Chancellor of the Abat Oliba CEU University. His speech concentrated on the protection of life, "something that goes beyond belief or disbelief."

This convention is the first activity of the Bioethics and Law Gift & Task course.
