From Ecumenism to Ecologism

The greenest building in the U.S is the Benedictine Women of Madison’s Holy Wisdom Monastery. Almost 100% of the 60,000-square-foot old Benedictine House was also recycled or reused in the building process – Thomas Peters has reported on his blog. “But now comes the rub” he adds: “The sisters ecological awareness appears to have replaced their theological devotions. They do carbon fasting for lent, and I have no idea what they are doing Sunday morning, but it sure doesn’t look like Mass. Yes, that’s one of the nuns behind the altar – Peters comments. The good news: The monastery is no longer affiliated with the Catholic Church.

Little Sisters Disciples of the Lamb

The Little Sisters Disciples of the Lamb are a French contemplative community that enables girls with Down’s syndrome to respond to a religious vocation – Berenike writes on the blog ‘exlaodicea’. This is made possible by the support of sisters without this disability. The community is close to the abbey of Fontgombault and benefits from its spiritual support. 90% of children with Downs Syndrome are killed before seeing the light of day.

Strong Accusations Against the ‘New York Times’

The then-presiding judge for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, Fr Thomas Brundage, has given a first-person account of the church trial against the abusive Milwaukee priest Father Lawrence Murphy. The case has been used to attack Pope Benedict. Fr Brundage reveals that he was never contacted by the ‘Times’ but nevertheless quoted by the paper based on documents that were not written by him. Regarding the involvement of the pope in the case Fr Bundage states: “Placing this matter at his doorstep is a huge leap of logic and information.”

Closest to His Head

Father Joseph McShane of the Franciscans of the Immaculate told me this story – ‘Canterbury tales’ blog reports. Here is the story: Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque asked the Sacred Heart of Jesus which was the saint closest to His Sacred Heart in Heaven: A cloud appeared and out stepped Saint Francis. Jesus said: This is the saint closest to my heart in heaven. Father McShane told the Dominicans this story and they said "Ya, but Saint Thomas Aquinas was closest to His head!"
