Faithful Servant: Bishop Rogelio Livieres Plano, the former bishop of Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, has died last Saturday at 69 in an Opus Dei hospital in Buenos Aires. He suffered from complications from diabetes. Livieres was unjustly ousted last September as a diocesan bishop although he built a very successful seminary. The numbers of baptisms, weddings, priests and parishes soared dramatically during his time in office. Requiescat in pace.

Fighting Abuses: Bishop Milton Kenan Júnior of Barretos, Brazil, has published a decree against five liturgical abuses. He asks the faithful not to walk around in the church and talk during the kiss of peace. The celebrant should not leave the sanctuary for this rite. He also orders the priests not to remain seated while extraordinary ministers distribute Holy Communion. For Communion under the two species the bishop clarifies that the faithful are not allowed to dip the host into the chalice themselves or that they are not allowed to receive a hoste in their hands which was dipped into the chalice by the priest.

Reappeared: 85-year old former archbishop Emmanuel Milingo has reappeared on the scene. In 2001 Milingo joined the Moon sect and got married. In 2006 he ordained four former priests to bishops which got him excommunicated. Yesterday, Milingo participated in a lunch organized by a group of street volunteers in Milan. He was accompanied by his wife Maria Sung and told those present that he was invited to the event by people who run a stoor with esoteric books.

Swampy Progressivism: The Baptist preacher Todd Pruitt has commented on the decision of the historic First Baptist Church of Greenville, South Carolina, to bless homosex-unions and offer ordination to practicing homosexuals. Quote: “One of the lessons for the denomination to which I belong is that progressivism is by very nature always pushing. One might say that progressivism tends to keep progressing. Progressives rarely say, “this far and no farther.” What begins as merely gentle trimming to the doctrine of Scripture continues on to the inevitable swamp of heterodoxy.”
