Newman – Doctor of the Church?

Yesterday, Vatican spokesman Fr. Lombardi commented in front of journalists the beatification of John Henry Cardinal Newman. He was asked if Pope Benedict had it in mind to also make Newman a saint. Father Lombardi answered that official procedure calls for further measures before that can happen and the Pope is "very respectful" of the rules. Then he added that there is a "concrete possibility," that Newman could be made a "doctor of the Church."
