Anti-Christian Bigotry Meets Resistance

France

Armed with hammers and screwdrivers, four brave protestors destroyed in Avignon a blasphemous 1987 photograph of a crucifix submerged in urine. Frederic Mitterand, the homosexual French culture minister, denounced the act as an “attack on the freedom of creation.” Earlier this month, Archbishop Jean-Pierre Marie Cattenoz of Avignon blasted local officials who permitted the display of the photograph. Comparing the officials to Pontius Pilate, the prelate noted that they would not have tolerated the display of a similar photograph of the Qur’an.

Father Michael Scanlan Will Be Retiring

USA

The Franciscan University of Steubenville has announced that its chancellor and past president Father Michael Scanlan will be retiring on June 30, 2011. Dr. Alan Schreck, a professor of theology at the school described in an interview with CNA how the 79-year-old priest took a leap of faith to renew the school's Catholic identity. Schreck has taught at the school since 1978. He explained: “Fr. Michael said we had to establish a clearer Catholic identity, both in the campus life and in our academic offerings. In this way, the school took a different path from many other Catholic institutions of its day. “They began hiring people who were solidly Catholic and believed in faithfulness to the magisterium.”

Electrician Faces Sack For Displaying Cross in His Van

Great Britain

Colin Atkinson, a 64 years old electrician from Wakefield faces the sack for displaying a eight inch long palm cross in the window of his company van – the British “Telegraph” has reported on Sunday. Atkinson has been called to a disciplinary hearing at the publicly funded Wakefield and District Housing where he has worked for 15 years. His bosses have demanded he remove the cross. They claim the cross may cause offence but say the company strongly promotes "inclusive" policies and allows employees to wear religious symbols at work. It has provided stalls at gay pride events, held "diversity days" for travellers, and has allowed other staff to display photographs of Che Guevera in their office. The Telegraph quotes Atkinson for saying: “I have worked in the coal mines and served in the Army in Northern Ireland and I have never suffered such stress. And: “The treatment of Christians in this country is becoming diabolical.”

Used And Later Kicked to the Curb

USA

Doug Kmiec, Barack Obama's ambassador to Malta, has resigned or was forced out. The reason: A State Department report criticized him for concentrating too much on issues such as abortion and his faith, while neglecting his ambassadorial duties. Kmiec, a Catholic, had shocked many when he publicly endorsed President Obama before the 2008 election. Matthew Archbold comments on the blog ‘creativeminorityreport.com’: “In the end, I think this shows how intolerant the Obama administration is of people of faith. I guess they figure Kmiec served his purpose so now they can kick him to the curb.”

It is also fine to attack Catholics because Catholics seem to put up with everything and even believe that it is meritorious to allow the Church to be slandered.

Let's hope the French Catholics remember the words of this minister......when the elections come. What an insult to Catholics......but then....it's fine to insult Catholics isn't it!! What clear discrimination!
