Benedict XVI grants the Pallium to 40 Metropolitan Archbishops.

On June 29th, 40 Metropolitan Archbishops received the Pallium from Benedict XVI as a sign of unity with the See of Peter and a symbol of the Church that takes care of the faithful through it pastors, like Jesus the Good Shepherd. The woolen Pallium was given to the Metropolitan Archbishops, representatives of the Church\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s universality, in the presence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, who was at the Vatican for the celebration of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul. The day before, the Pauline Year was inaugurated in remembrance of the 2,000th anniversary of the birth of the Apostle of the Gentiles. In his homily, Benedict XVI explained that the blood of the martyrs is the seed of new life, bringing reconciliation and love rather than vengeance. Speaking to the faithful before the Sunday Angelus, the Holy Father once again focused on unity and noted that the Netherlands celebrated the beatification of Sr. Josefa Stenmanns, founder of the Missionary Sisters of Steyler.
