Faith and Reason: Friends or Foes?
Video excerpt from a talk (in full www.op-stjoseph.org ) delivered at St. Vincent Ferrer Church on Manhattan's Upper East Side on June 25, 2010 by Father James Dominic Brent, O.P., of the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., who teaches at The Catholic University of America's School of Philosophy. Fr. Brent follows the line of thought of "Fides et Ratio"(Faith and Reason), in which Pope John Paul II observed that, "Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth-in a word, to know himself-so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves."

Dominican Nuns - The Order of Preachers.
Fr. Restrick's first novel is entitled Sister Mary Baruch, O.P.
Fr. Jacob Restrick, O.P. has served the Dominican Province of St. Joseph (Eastern USA) as an itinerant preacher, retreat preacher, prior, pastor, and most recently, as chaplain to our nuns in West Springfield (MA), Elmira (NY), and Buffalo (NY). In the province of St. Joseph, there are 12 monasteries of cloistered nuns, dedicated to the salvation of souls and supporting the friars' preaching by lives consecrated to prayer.
More about the book Sr. Mary Baruch: Born in New York City to a nice Jewish family, Rebecca Feinstein, while a student at Columbia University in the mid-sixties, becomes a Catholic and to the dismay of her family and friends, enters a cloistered monastery in Brooklyn Heights. This is her story of faith and struggle in a strange and wonderful "new world." The Monastery of Our Lady of Hope, the community of Sisters, the Prioresses and priests, and Sr. Mary Baruch …More

How fabulous! Thank you... The only objection that I have to this ceremony is this: the magnificent sactuary of this Basilica was utterly spoiled by the unfortunate 'table' which seems to have replaced the beautiful high altar (complete with baldachino!). Gosh... how more beautiful it could have been if the high altar were used... 🧐 The music and ceremoniale is exquisite! simply exqiuisite! 🙂 His Grace spoke beautifully, albeit choked up with emotion - which endeared him to me. Thanks again! 😇
