Secret Renewal: In one of the oldest dioceses of the U.S. the wind of renewal is blowing. The local minor seminary is now requiring three years of Latin. The major seminary hired a new rector a few years ago. He wants that the seminarians learn to say Mass in the Old Rite. A priest who celebrates the Old Rite in the city where the major seminary is located, says that on free days seminarians do attend his Mass. Gloria.tv asks why it is better to mention the name of the archdiocese although Gloria.tv knows it.

Bullying in the Vatican? Fr Ray Blake writes on his blog that he knows many priests working in the Vatican who are leaving for their home dioceses with the intention of never returning. The problem according to him is that Pope Francis – quote – “bullies their bosses and their bosses bully them, so they go.” Father Blake continues: “Even the most thick skinned and dedicated can only put up with a certain degree of insults and contempt. That, and an increasing degree of "South Americanisation" makes the Holy See more and more difficult a working environment.”

The Oldest: Last Saturday, retired archbishop Peter Leo Gerety of Newark, New Jersey, has celebrated his 103rd birthday in his native Connecticut. He was ordained a priest in June 1939 for the diocese of Hartford and retired as an archbishop in 1986. Gerety became the world’s oldest Catholic bishop when retired bishop Gery Leuliet of Amiens, France, died on January 1 2015 at the age of 104, only twelve days short of his 105th birthday.

No Bones: Father Alessandro Dordi who belonged to the diocese of Bergamo, Italy, was murdered execution style by Communist while serving as a missionary in Perù on Christmas Day 1991. Fr Dordi is supposed to be beatified on December 5th of this year. But there is one problem. Two of his nine siblings refuse his exhumation which is a necessary and indispensable part in order to procede to the beatification. Fr Dordi is still burried in the tomb of his family. There will be another attempt to convince the siblings in September. Fr Dordi was already 49 years old when he emigrated to Perù where he died eleven years later.
