Holy Father's Intentions for the month of October.
For the month of October, Benedict XVI has called for prayers that the upcoming Synod of Bishops will help believers in the Word of God to transmit the truth of the faith. This is the proposed intention of the Apostolate of Prayer for this month, an initiative that involves some 50 million people on five continents.
The general prayer intention reads: "That the Synod of Bishops may help bishops and theologians as well as catechists and pastoral workers engaged in the service of the Word of God transmit with courage the truth of the faith in communion with the entire Church."
The world Synod of Bishops will be held October 5 to 26 at the Vatican with the theme: "The Word of God in the life and mission of the Church."
Each month the Pope also requests prayers for a missionary intention. The missionary intention for October is: "That in this month dedicated to the missions, through the promotional activities of the Pontifical Missionary Works and other organizations, the Christian may feel the need to participate in the Church’s universal mission with prayer, sacrifice and concrete help.”
