Benedict XVI: the Christian Feast of Christmas.

Christmas is a Christian feast, and its symbols constitute an important reference to the great mystery of the Incarnation and the Birth of Jesus. This was the message of the Pope as thanked a Ukrainian delegation for the gift of the Christmas tree that was placed in St. Peter's Square next to the Nativity scene. We must recover the Christian meaning of Christmas, the Pope said, the sense of prayer and devotion that the Incarnation brings to everyone's life. The Pope noted that the pine tree, with its evergreen branches is a symbol of enduring life. And, he said, it is also a sign of the profound piety of the Ukrainian people, and of the Christian roots of Ukrainian culture.
