May we all be one so that the world may believe.

At the end of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, Benedict XVI presided over the celebration of Vespers of the Feast of the Conversion of St. Paul Apostle, on January 25th in the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls.

Recalling in his homily the theme for this year’s week of prayer -- You are witnesses of these things (Luke 24:48) -- the Holy Father said that the communion and unity of Christ’s disciples are elements of singular importance for a credible and effective proclamation of the Gospel.

Benedict XVI: “In a world marked by religious and Christian indifference and even by an increasing aversion to the Christian faith, a new and intense activity of evangelization is required, not only among the peoples who do not yet know the Gospel, but also among those to whom Christianity was proclaimed and became a part of their history. Unfortunately, there is no lack of issues that separate us from one another, which we hope may be overcome through prayer and dialogue. However, there is a central point of Christ’s message that we can proclaim together: the paternity of God, the victory of Christ over sin and death by His cross and resurrection, the confidence in the transforming action of the Sprit.”
